What a fairytale…. Norway’s Alexander Rybak and the group Frikar won the Eurovision Song Contest convincingly with the song Fairytale.

Eurovision Song Contest is an annual music event where the European countries compete against each other. The show this year was held in Moscow, and is the most popular and most watched in Europe. 42 countries participated and via semifinals 25 of the countries melodies went to the final. Norway won with 387 points, the highest score ever achieved in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Fairytale became a huge hit in Norway after it won the national finals, its gratifying that the rest of Europe like the song as well. Fairytale is a catchy pop tune inspired by traditional Norwegian folk music that goes straight in to your ears. Great job Alexander, I am proud of you.

Please enjoy the music video below.

Apparently Eurovision isn't as uptight as American Idol about letting their show appear on Youtube

Dr Vinny; oh yes, he knows what he is doing. Alexander Rybak did a terrific promotion job ahead of the contest and became "everyone's" favorite. To be honest my favorite song/artist in the national contest was Tone Damli Aaberge with Butterflies (please listen to it.. its a great song). Similar to the European contest Alexander Rybak crushed all competitors in the Norwegian contest. He is a well educated and talented musician. Combined with a charming personality and a dynamic performance he won conveniently. Something tells me that you know what I mean saying; the best ARTIST always win.. not necessarily the best song.

Nomad; in a way you are right, but if you visit ESC the official European Song Contest site on YouTube you will find music videos of all the songs. Please pay attention to Iceland, they became second and had a really nice song this year.
